Egyptian Paste and Pigment
I travelled to Egypt in late spring 2025 as a consultant to artists Dina Danish, Jean-Baptiste Maitre, archaeological artist John O’Carroll and anthropologists and chemists in Cairo to develop and produce in our investigation of the lost ancient Egyptian blue pigment and its rare luminescent quality.
I had organised the studio in Fustat a near-ancient epicentre of pottery in Cairo, where we worked from. Next to the raw materials supplier is the studio of my friend and potter, Mohamed ‘Hamouda’ Abouzeid, who kindly let us use his workshop for our investigation. We collaborated with archaeologists, craftsmen and craftswomen, academics and artists.
This project was supported by the Dutch Mondriaan Funds.
