Egyptian Paste and Pigment

Origins
It all began with a dream.

Wood Firing, A return to Oxford.
The Alchemy of wood firing.
It was Peter Rawclife who introduced me to the Oxford Kilns, in Wytham Woods. In the seven years of being involved in the project, I had learnt to build kilns and undertake protracted wood firings both for individual work, in a group and teaching larger groups alongside the founder of the kilns, the anthropologist Dr. Robin Wilson.

From the ashes of trees.
A passion that lead to a pursuit. On the shelves behind me are is the decade long collection of individual tree species in their burnt ash state. The mineral composition and essence of its life retained in its ash state.

The Axis Mundi
It all begins with an idea.
This studio piece was fired in a wood kiln fuelled by wood of the Walnut Tree, it has a liner glaze made using the ashes of the same tree. Complete, this rare and anthropomorphic piece embodies and harnesses a wholeness of its conception.
